Stretch Program

What is Stretch?
The Stretch program serves two identified needs at John Paul II.
Students in Grades K-3 who may be struggling in reading will receive specialized instruction during the school day. The curriculum used in this pull-out program will be the Neuhaus Education Center’s Reading Readiness, Foundations of Language, or Basic Language Skills. Neuhaus has been a leader of literacy instruction in Houston since 1980. More information about Neuhaus can be found at www.neuhaus.org.
Students in grades 4-8 will be invited to participate in the Stretch program based on standardized test results and recommendations from the staff team. These students will also be meeting during the week in a pull-out program as they complete projects that complement the classroom and provide added depth and breadth to the curriculum. Robotics, membership in the 4-H Club, and the Junior Master Gardener Program illustrate the kinds of projects with which the students would be involved.
Students participate in Stretch one hour per week.
Mrs. Kollar, our Stretch teacher, will be guiding the students in both programs in grades K-7th and Mrs. Richard works with the 8th grade Stretch students.
