Art Wheel - (6th grade) - Mrs. Stieber

This intensified nine-week program is held quarterly. The focus is upon exposure1/2/3/Dimensional broad based “artisan crafts” using variety of multi-media while learning new techniques and tool usage in relation to our focus artist in the creative process. A variety of challenging art methods, processes, and applications will be taught in relation to the Elements and Principles of Design while achieving TEKS educational standards for art. Media will include the following lesson series; Puzzle Art- using the six defined types of line, Claystone Sculpture- pinch pot and creature (after 5 weeks of dry time will be painted with acrylics), Copper metal molding/etching using specific tools, Mini-mat weaving, Basket Reed weaving, Wood burning (excellent behaviors required). If the group trends ahead of schedule additional projects may be added.

 Middle School Art and Artisan Art Classes (7th and 8th grades) – Mrs. Stieber

Art 1- (7th & 8th grades combined) –This class will focus upon deepening student’s knowledge of “Artists and History” thru specific lessons and media while further developing the importance of mastering the use of Design Elements and Principles in their artwork. This class will focus more upon “one and two dimensional” art forms thru mini-drawing series throughout the year that will build upon prior knowledge. Each step will develop student’s skill level using a wide variety of drawing media and challenges including; Ebony pencils and numeric drawing pencils to learn value/shading, charcoal, monochromatics, India ink, ink etching, chalk/oil pastels, painting using a developed system for positive results (water color, tempera, acrylics), Ink Professional Printmaking.  Two and Three Dimensional projects will be introduced throughout the year to add variety and interest in challenging craft based lessons including; sculpture, string art, collage/abstract, glass mosaic trivet, basket weaving, metal molding/etching. Students will participate in 4 art shows this year (2-Major) to show case their talents.
Artisan(8th Grade) - This class will be “Art Studio Based” as students learn and explore“advanced” processes, techniques, and tool usage/applications as associated with true “Old World Artisan Craftsmanship”.  The focus will be in two and three Dimensional art forms. Occasional specific One Dimensional projects will add variety in the year. A broad range of cultural craft projects will challenge student’s higher level thinking skills as they overcome media challenges to achieve specific lesson goals. Students should embrace their gift of individual creativity and expression as related to the theme. A variety of art methods, processes, and applications will be taught in relation to the Elements and Principles of Design while achieving TEKS educational standards for Art. A wide variety of media will include the following; Collage, Basket weaving, Navaho Weaving (a long term project for Rodeo Art Show 2 months to complete), Metal molding/etching/punching (lanterns), Monotype Professional Printmaking ( lino and shape printmaking), Claystone -sculpture, shell Mirror, wood burning, glass mosaic, string art ,Ink etching, leather tooling/punching, wood-burning (excellent behaviors required), Acrylic painting. Students will participate in 4 art shows this year (2-Major) to show case their talents.
